Falcons
Hello, I am Miss Whalley the class teacher for Year 3/ 4 Falcons.
I will be teaching Falcons on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning. I am looking forward to being a part of your children's educational journey and seeing them grow.
Mrs Darsot, is the Teaching Assistant in Falcons and is with the children Monday to Friday, assisting with learning across the board.
Science - Pollination
We have been finding out how pollination works by reading secondary sources and watching a video all about it. We then summarised this into a comic strip explaining how the process works. We worked hard to use the scientific vocabulary we are learning such as nectar, pollen, transport, attract and reproduce.
Planning a Folktale
In English, we have been reading and exploring a Folktale called ‘The Enchantress of the Sands.’ In our planning phase, we have been discussing our ideas for a different wise character who will give the father a magical instrument to help him cross the signing sands. We have also had great fun using Talk for Writing and generating our own actions to retell the story.
Oracy - Discussion guidelines
We have been using lots of talk in Falcons to help us learn and share our ideas. As well as learning from one another, we are developing our communication skills such as active listening and speaking clearly. We talked about what makes a successful discussion and generated our own set of classroom discussion guidelines. Super ideas, everyone!
Planetarium Visit
In November 2022, we were treated to a visit from Lancaster University who brought their Planetarium to our school. We enjoyed venturing inside and finding out about the stars and planets in our galaxy. It was very exciting!
English
We loved celebrating World Book Day in school. We each came to school dressed up as one of our favourite book characters. To develop our love of reading, We visited a class in KS1 and shared stories with the younger children before coming back to class and completing some fun activities.
PSHE
We have been talking about kindness. We have been discussing how important it is to be kind to one another and to treat each other fairly. We have made some beautiful bookmarks and wristbands, have a look at our pictures below.
Science
As part of our Science we are carrying out longitudinal studies throughout the year. We will be observing the changes that we can see in the park such as habitats, plants and flowers and even animals that we may see when we are out.
Foundation Subjects
PE - Some of the children in LKS2 were picked to represent Frenchwood at a sports event at Christ the King High School. The children trained, learnt some new skills and most importantly had a great day out. Well done to everyone involved.
DT - In DT we have been creating robots linking to our English text 'The Iron Man'. We created movable arms and legs and a 3d head and body. The children loved creating these and the finished products are great.
RE
“We have far more in common with each other than that which divides us”. This week every child in school has been thinking about this quote and what it means to them. Thinking specifically about equality and diversity. The children have created some fantastic pieces of artwork independently to show what the quote means to them. The teachers of Frenchwood are so proud of some of the conversations that have been had in school as well as the amazing artwork produced.
