Subject Leadership
The Subject Leader
I am Farhana Desai and I am the subject leader for Maths at Frenchwood Community Primary School. Being the subject leader in Maths is something I genuinely enjoy because it lets me make a real impact on how our young children experience and learn maths. I get to introduce fun, creative ways for children to understand numbers, shapes, and patterns, which helps them see maths as something enjoyable rather than intimidating. It is so gratifying to watch children's confidence grow as they start to "get" these new ideas! I believe that mathematics is an essential tool for everyday life and at Frenchwood we are committed to developing a positive attitude, competence and confidence in mathematical knowledge, concepts and skills.
Another part I love about my role is supporting other teachers and adults. I enjoy sharing tips, resources, and ideas that make maths lessons engaging and effective for everyone. Whether it’s organising hands-on activities, planning group games, or finding new resources, I get to work with everyone and I find it very enriching.
Plus, being the subject leader keeps me learning and growing too. Staying updated on the best ways to teach maths helps me bring fresh ideas to the classroom and ensures our students get the best start possible. Overall, it’s a role that lets me combine my love for teaching with my passion for maths – and that’s what makes it so rewarding!
